Indian Railways reported wheelchair availability at 5,868 stations in December 2025.
- Free wheelchair: Railways provides a wheelchair to the passenger's attendant for assistance to or from the train.
- No attendant: A licensed Sahayak may be hired at the displayed pre-fixed nominal rate.
- Battery vehicle: 196 Battery Operated Vehicles were reported at 79 major stations, with free and chargeable services.

Can a wheelchair user change platforms without stairs?
These records cannot confirm a complete step-free route. Lifts on two platforms do not prove that every entrance, foot overbridge and platform connection is accessible.

How many Indian railway stations have lifts or escalators?
The Indian Railways Annual Report and Accounts 2023-24 recorded either lifts or escalators at 651 stations up to March 2024. It reported 1,435 escalators at 389 stations and 1,436 lifts at 550 stations. Read the official annual report.
