How to find your PPO number — every place it is written
Four places, in order: the PPO copy from retirement, the pension book, your SPARSH login (My Documents → PPO — and the user ID itself is the PPO number plus a suffix), and your bank's pension cell. Nothing works? The Record Office traces it from your service number. There is no search-by-name website — whoever promises one wants your data, not your welfare.
First, know what you are looking for
The Pension Payment Order (PPO) is the sanction document of your pension — the paper the whole system runs on. Its number is your pension identity: SPARSH builds your login from it, the bank pays against it, and every grievance quotes it. The four places, in order
- The PPO copy itself. Issued at retirement through the Record Office; the number is printed on its face. Family pensioners: the members and their serial numbers are listed in the same document.
- The pension book. The particulars page of the pension book carries the PPO number — this is official enough that the ECHS application instructions tell pre-1986 retirees without a PPO copy to upload "the particular page of Pension Book, where PPO number is mentioned" as proof.
- SPARSH. Two ways:
- If you can log in: My Documents → PPO shows the document (official SPARSH FAQ, Q4).
- Work backwards from the user ID: per the official FAQ, the SPARSH user ID is the PPO number + 01 for the pensioner (02/03/04… for family members, by their serial in the PPO). Example given in the FAQ itself: PPO 111111111 → user ID 11111111101. Know your login? Drop the last two digits — that is your PPO number.
- The bank's pension cell (CPPC). If pension is being paid, the paying branch's records carry the PPO reference — ask with your account details and identity.
When none of that works — the honest route
Write to your Record Office (for officers, the respective pension sanctioning authority) with service number, rank, and dates of enrolment/discharge. The Record Office is the office that initiated your pension documents; it can trace the PPO number from the service number. This is slower than a website — and it is the real path. For migrated pensioners, once you have the number, SPARSH shows the document itself.
What does not exist
- No "PPO search by name / Aadhaar / mobile". No official public tool does this for defence pensioners — deliberately. A site offering it is collecting your Aadhaar and mobile number, which is precisely what a pension scammer needs. Never type those into a non-government site — including ours; our calculators run in your browser and send nothing anywhere.
- No paid "PPO nikalwana". Every route above is free.

How do I find my PPO number?
PPO copy → pension book → SPARSH (My Documents → PPO; or read it off your user ID minus the last two digits) → bank's pension cell. Failing all four, the Record Office traces it from your service number.
What is the connection between the SPARSH user ID and the PPO number?
The user ID is the PPO number with a suffix — 01 for self, 02/03/04 for family members by their serial in the PPO. The official FAQ's own example: PPO 111111111 → user ID 11111111101.
I am a family pensioner — is my PPO number different?
Same PPO, different suffix — your serial number among the family members listed in the PPO becomes the 02/03/04 in your SPARSH user ID.
I never received a PPO copy — what do I do?
Record Office, with service number, rank and dates; or the bank's pension cell if pension is already flowing. Then view the document in SPARSH under My Documents → PPO.
Can I search my PPO number online by name?
No — no such official tool exists, and sites claiming it are harvesting data.

- The Record-Office route is the standard channel these documents originate from; no public lookup tool exists, and we state that as the honest answer rather than inventing one.
Important note
Never share your PPO number, Aadhaar or OTP with anyone who calls about "pension verification" — the PPO number plus an OTP is enough for real damage. This is a private website; we never ask for any of these.
